Simon Hood is a Singer/Song Writer from as he like to say all over. Based in Atlanta his newly adopted home for over 10 years he also claims New Haven CT., Greenville NC. and Greenville SC. as home too. His love for music started in Greenville SC. Where as a child he use to sit in on his uncle's band practice sessions not only did he get lesson one in song development but learn the value of music being an inclusive and ever changing being with a life and soul of it's own. As a youth Greenville NC was home. A place where he learn the benefit of hard work helping his grandfather on his farm. It shock him to find out the his grandfather at one point was actually more than just a tobacco farmer. He was actually darn good country western singer. New Haven CT was the place he called home as a teenager. He took a job soon as he got to town and took his first paycheck straight to the studio time where he began developing his writing skill. At the time he said he wasn't ready to start singing right away because he wanted to sharpen his writing skills, so at first he only wrote Rapp songs. Hip-Hop has always had an influence on his music and really got into the whole culture as it was at it's dawn. So of course he's some what of an old school hip-hop head. Atlanta turned out to be a vacation that could not last long enough sense his arrival he's worked as a producer for Maully G of Illegal, Damien Hall of GUY Dallas Austin Eric Sermons of Def Squad, and Trauma Black to name a few. The songs that are on this site are from the "Circular Motion" album. The reason I'm posting this blog is to explain one of the reasons behind writing the album "Find A Way". Like a lot of people I found myself torn between performing a genre of music I love, and finding myself conflicted with some of the messages a lot of popular music seem portray, but let me go back a little to tell you a little about myself. As some have come to learn from a lot of the bio information floating around on line about me I can be a bit stubborn. When I make my mind up about something I set out to accomplish my goals and don't stop until there accomplished. An example of this is how a friend of mine came to me one night and said he needed some money to by milk for his baby. So I said cool, lets go to the store and get the baby some milk. Now when we arrived at the store the problem began. In this particular store, the only one in the area we noticed that the store did not have one bottle of milk, or one loaf of bread, or a carton of eggs, or any thing else a person would need to nourish the body. The store did how ever have cooler after cooler filled with beer and wine. Mind you this was a convenient store, you know the like a neighborhood 7/11. That triggered something in me, so I asked to speak with the store manager, but it just so happened the owner was there. So I asked him to take a look at something and tell me what he thought. I pointed out to him that there was coolers full of beer in his store and no milk, or eggs, or bread, or cheese. Then I asked him to walk out side with me. So we went out side, and I asked him to look at his sign which read convenient store, and also asked him to look around at the community his store serves. At that point I told him as a member of the community I was very disappointed in him. I explained to him that I didn't have a problem with him making money from selling beer, but if that's all his store has to offer he should change the name of his store to liquor store. I also told him that if he was going to keep the store name as it is he should remember his store is there to provide goods to everyone in the community, being that was the case he should think about having some of those cooler dedicated to goods that will benefit the community like Milk? I then told him I could not shop at his store again until that changes. The owner looked at me and said I'll have milk, juice, eggs, bread, and anything else you think people will need here tomorrow, just come back. The next day I came by that store and he did exactly what he said. The reason I told that story is to show how, for a long time the music industry has been acting exactly the same way that store owner acted. We as artist and companies would see something that works by way of sales and everybody rushes out to mimic it, this saturates the market with a large amount of songs that sound the same, and carry no meaning. It's like walking in a convenient store to find nothing but malt liquor on the shelves. Now I'm not knocking freedom of speech or anything, I'm just saying it would be a great thing to give people more options than what's been the norm. You know an album that has something to say plus sounds great. That's why I decided to write "Find A Way" I believe there are a lot of people out there who are looking for the milk and eggs in there music, and not just brew. How about you?
